A study on the Pessimism of Adolescence

Abstract
|
|
|
For the purpose of quantitative measuring of the pessimism of the Korean adolescent by using Beck´s Hopelessness Scale, the author selected 140 normal, orphan and physically handicapped children during the period of September 1. 1978 to November 31. 1978, and analysed them statistically getting the folowing results:
1. The scores on the hopelessness-scale were significantly higher in physically handica￢pped and orphan groups than in the normal group. and they were significantly in the physically handicapped group than in the orphan group. (P<0.01)
2. The scores on the hopelessness factors for feeling about the future, loss of motiv￢ation and future expectations were significantly higher in the physically handicapped group than in the normal group. (P<0.01)
3. The scores on the hopelessness factors for feeling about the future(P<0.05) and loss of motivation (P4. The scores of males and females on the Hopelessness scale and Hopelessness factors were not significantly different.
